The King Shepherd makes a dedicated and devoted companion dog. They were confident and strong, and their enormous size would act as a significant deterrent to any potential predator. Although they are not violent dogs, King Shepherds are fiercely devoted to their families.

King Shepherd Dog  History

Shelley Watts-Cross and David Turkheimer, two Americans, created the King Shepherd in 1990. The breed is still regarded as developing.

German Shepherds are mixed with other breeds, such as the Great Pyrenees, Alaskan Malamute, and occasionally the Akita, to create this hybrid. Breeders sought to produce a German Shepherd-like dog that was larger and had fewer genetic health issues than the German Shepherd.  This dog comes from a long history of working parents and needs to be kept active to be content.

Although the hybrid was under development in the early 1990s, a breed club for King Shepherds wasn’t established until 1995.
